SwingMate FAQs

Everything you need to know

How do I set up SwingMate?

Can junior/smaller and left-handed players use SwingMate?

JUNIORS: Sure can. Juniors or small players will just need to adjust the rods to different angles depending on their arm length and height.
LEFTIES: SwingMate works for you as well. The text on the top tells you where to place the rods for LH FADE and LH DRAW. The hinge angles used during drills on the alignment rod-holder hinges are the same for lefties and righties, just mirrored.

How do I add an extra hinge?

SwingMate Hinge Assembly

Easy. Remove the plastic end cap from the base plate of SwingMate with a small screwdriver or even a butter knife from the kitchen. Loosen the T-nut and slide into the base plate as pictured. Replace the end cap.

Can I use more hinges and more rods? aka "HOLD MY BEER" Drill

As long as you promise to send us videos you can use as many hinges and rods as you like. We are thinking about running a competition called "Hold My Beer" and see who can come up with the most complex training drill. What do you think? Let us know by using the Customer Support contact form.
PS: The hinges are our own proprietary design. You should only ever purchase them from us to ensure quality.

Can SwingMate be used outdoors?

Of course it can. It's made of high-quality alumiunium and hard anodised, and the text is laser etched.

Will SwingMate damage my clubs?

The SwingMate is half a metre away from where the low-point of the golf swing is, so you would have to be wildly off-line to hit the aluminium base plate or the plastic hinges. If you aren’t proficient/confident enough to be hitting that far away from an object we suggest you start slow and build up (and you should probably be using old, less valuable clubs in practice and on the course!). The materials used in all our products are “softer” than that used in your clubs, so even a direct hit should not cause destructive damage. Hitting the fiberglass rods at speed could damage the rods but should not cause anything other than superficial/aesthetic damage to your equipment.

Can I use my own alignment rods?

The holes in SwingMate's proprierty-designed hinges fit any standard 5/16” (approx. 8mm) alignment rods sold worldwide. Use ours or use your own. We do highly recommend a 1.6m rod in the Swing Plane Drill is you are far less likely to bring your hand or club down on top of the end. The vast majority of players should not be bringing their arms higher than that in training anyway.

What is the best tension for the hinge spring?

The adjustable alignment rod hinges are built with an internal spring-weighted ratchet and are purposefully designed to be very hard to turn. You may struggle to move them by hand, so use an alignment rod as a lever. The spring should be pre-tensioned from the factory (best tension is with the thumb screw approx. 1.25 turns out from fully tightened). In the rare event it is too tight and the hinge will not rotate, turn the thumb screw counter-clockwise 0.5 turns at a time, using an alignment rod as a lever. It should never require more than two full turns out from tight. Do NOT loosent the screw more than 2 turns, as you'll need forearms like Popeye to get the tumbscrew back on.

How can I clean SwingMate?

You can wash SwingMate with water and normal dishwashing detergent and a soft cloth or brush. If the text seems dirty the best way to clean it is with a "plastic" pencil eraser.
